About The Peacemakers

The Peacemakers Tribe (Band) was founded in 1975 in Northwest Washington, D.C., by Johnny “Bink” Porter and Sandy Hailstock. Emerging during a powerful era of live music in the nation’s capital, the group began by performing a blend of R&B, funk, soul, and multiple popular genres that shaped the local music scene.

As Washington, D.C. music evolved in the late 1970s, the rise of go-go music helped define the sound of the city. Inspired by the growing energy of the movement and the influence of legendary artists such as Chuck Brown, The Peacemakers embraced the rhythm, percussion, call-and-response, and audience participation that became central to the D.C. go-go experience.
